Position Summary

Copper Wren Law is seeking a Managing Attorney to lead the firm’s legal practice while partnering closely with ownership on strategy and growth.

This role is ideal for an experienced attorney who enjoys running cases, leading people, and shaping how a firm operates. You will have meaningful decision-making authority over case strategy, legal standards, team development, and day-to-day operations, while maintaining a manageable and intentional billable load.

  • Oversee case strategy, legal analysis, and representation across the firm.
  • Personally handle complex matters, hearings, mediations, and settlement conferences.
  • Review and approve pleadings, motions, declarations, and key client communications.
  • Serve as the escalation point for high-risk cases and sensitive client matters.
  • Supervise and mentor Associate Attorneys, paralegals, and legal support staff.
  • Set clear expectations around quality, ethics, deadlines, and client service.
  • Balance caseload distribution to ensure sustainability and strong outcomes.
  • Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and training as the firm grows.
Firm Operations & Strategy
  • Establish and maintain firm-wide legal standards, templates, and workflows.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical rules, court deadlines, and internal policies.
  • Partner with ownership on firm strategy, process improvement, and growth initiatives.
  • Participate in networking, community involvement, and business development efforts aligned with the firm’s mission.
Billable Expectations
  • 1st month with the Firm = 10 hours billed per week
  • 2nd month with the Firm = 15 hours billed per week
  • 3rd month and beyond with the Firm = 20 hours billed per week

Remaining time is dedicated to leadership, mentorship, and firm operations.

Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active Arizona State Bar license in good standing.
  • 5+ years of legal practice experience; litigation or family law experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cases independently from start to resolution.
  • Prior experience mentoring, supervising, or leading legal teams is strongly preferred.
  • Strong legal writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • High emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and a client-centered mindset.
  • Comfortable balancing legal work with leadership and operational decision-making.
