Managing Attorney
Mesa, AZ | Hybrid Role
Position OverviewWe are seeking a Managing Attorney to lead a legal practice while partnering closely with leadership on strategy and growth. This role is ideal for an experienced attorney who enjoys running cases, leading teams, and shaping how a firm operates. The Managing Attorney will have meaningful decision‑making authority over case strategy, legal standards, team development, and day‑to‑day operations, while maintaining a manageable and intentional billable load.
Key Responsibilities Practice & Case Leadership- Oversee case strategy, legal analysis, and representation across the firm.
- Personally handle complex matters, hearings, mediations, and settlement conferences.
- Review and approve pleadings, motions, declarations, and key client communications.
- Serve as the escalation point for high‑risk cases and sensitive client matters.
- Supervise and mentor Associate Attorneys, paralegals, and legal support staff.
- Set clear expectations around quality, ethics, deadlines, and client service.
- Balance caseload distribution to ensure sustainability and strong outcomes.
- Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and training as the firm grows.
- Establish and maintain firm‑wide legal standards, templates, and workflows.
- Ensure compliance with ethical rules, court deadlines, and internal policies.
- Partner with leadership on firm strategy, process improvement, and growth initiatives.
- Participate in networking, community involvement, and business development efforts aligned with the firm’s mission.
- 1st month: 10 hours billed per week
- 2nd month: 15 hours billed per week
- 3rd month and beyond: 20 hours billed per week
- Remaining time dedicated to leadership, mentorship, and firm operations
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active Arizona State Bar license in good standing
- 5+ years of legal practice experience; litigation or family law experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to manage cases independently from start to resolution
- Prior experience mentoring, supervising, or leading legal teams strongly preferred
- Strong legal writing, analytical, and communication skills
- High emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and a client‑centered mindset
- Comfortable balancing legal work with leadership and operational decision‑making
- Regularly required to talk or hear
- Frequently use hands or fingers; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Noise level is usually low to moderate
