Job SummaryThis position is scheduled to begin in August 2026. Instructs students from diverse backgrounds and/or cultures in a full range of emergency medical education classes with a primary focus on EMT and/or Paramedicine courses. Assists the EMS Programs Directors in coordinating various EMS program activities, including but not limited to theory schedule development, lab session coordination, clinical internship coordination, and field internship coordination.
Utilizes multiple methods of instruction, assessment results, and appropriate instructional technologies to engage students in learning, enhance teaching, and promote student success. The instructor may teach in traditional, accelerated, hybrid, and/or online programs. Collaborates in the development and leadership of programs for students within the college and/or outside with business, industry, community, EMS agencies, and fire service agencies; collaborates in integrated public healthcare programs and activities, builds relationships with high school and university institutions in support of career/transfer pathways;
facilitates activities outside the classroom for students (eg. Undergraduate research, clubs, STEAM activities and programs, experiences for students in business/industry/community partners, etc.).
- Instructs a diverse population of students, including students in high school bridge programs in a classroom, lab, clinical, and field internship setting, online, hybrid, accelerated, and other alternative schedules and formats; uses learning-centered strategies to engage students and promote student success; demonstrates innovation in teaching and learning and the scholarship of learning by focusing on student learning, retention, and achievement; incorporates instructional technology and alternative delivery or scheduling techniques, etc.
- Develops instructional materials and curricula; develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials; assesses and evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students’ scholastic records; prepares and grades examinations and other learning activities; may hire and evaluate adjunct faculty; may coordinate program activities; participates in division and college assessment and program review processes; uses assessment and evaluation results to improve instruction and student learning, etc.
- Maintains academic support hours to assist, tutor, and advise students to promote learning, citizenship, and personal development; works with students outside of the classroom on instructional activities and projects such as clubs, undergraduate student research, STEAM activities, and programs; participates in integrated public healthcare programs and activities; participates in interdisciplinary activities with MCCCD allied healthcare programs; engages in internships with business/industry/community partners;
develops and cultivates relationships with high school and university institutions to develop and promote transfer pathways for students; facilitates interprofessional relationships, etc. - Remains current with new trends and developments in the field through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, and workshops and enhances knowledge of pedagogy related to the emergency medical services and mobile integrated health disciplines as well as the pedagogy of adult learners and underprepared students; participates in college and district activities including department/division meetings, committees, workshops and projects; contributes to the academic life and mission of the college;
demonstrates intercultural competence in interactions with students, staff, and the community; maintains a team approach in collaborating with faculty, staff, and students, etc.
