- Become the purchasing subject matter expert for the company, keeping current on any purchasing policy changes and communicating as appropriate.
- Own the purchasing process: NDA verification, e-price negotiation, purchase requisition, purchase order placement, delivery tracking, expediting, shipment coordination, and material discrepancy reporting.
- Manage purchase orders, oversee shipping schedules, and maintain purchase records.
- Perform vendor research and selection to enhance profitability, reduce operating costs, and boost efficiency.
- Maintain working relationships with vendors and supervise vendor activities.
- Enter purchase orders and receipts into JD Edwards (ERP System).
- Communicate and negotiate with vendors and sales personnel.
- Attend daily meetings and communicate issues and recovery plans.
- Manage stockroom inventory and inventory turns.
- Generate and interpret reports to review open orders against forecast and lead times.
- Interview vendors and visit suppliers’ facilities to learn about products, services and pricing.
- Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers to obtain the best deals on behalf of the company.
- Verify purchases by comparing them to standard cost and recommend alternatives.
- Interact with suppliers to schedule delivery times and resolve shipping errors.
- Authorize payments and maintain receipts, records and inventories.
- Attend industry trade shows to stay current on trends and meet suppliers.
- Follow up with appropriate people and departments as needed to ensure order follow-up.
- Maintain and update vendor information as necessary.
- Meet with manager at regular intervals to discuss new processes and supply chain strategy.
- 2+ years of experience with processes and systems for forecasting, purchasing materials, inventory, stockroom, and warehouse—preferably within the automotive industry.
- Strong organizational skills and a good understanding of sourcing, with the ability to maintain vendor relationships.
- Use and interpret data to determine purchasing needs and perform inventory management tasks.
- Experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other business software; strong Excel skills required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with team members, leadership and vendors.
- Strict attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Experience with legal contracts review, agreement management and administration, e‑procurement.
- Associate degree in business administration, supply chain, or relevant field, or comparable work experience.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good math skills and ability to quickly calculate cost of goods and services.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, internet, Adobe, Oracle JD Edwards, and other company software platforms; direct experience with JD Edwards preferred.
