Accounting Specialist II

• Monday – Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 40 hours per week
• Full Time, Temporary up to 6 Month Assignment
• Located in Downtown Mesa

What you’ll be doing

Perform advanced journey-level technical and paraprofessional accounting work within a major accounting function such as Accounts Payable, Payroll, Revenues/Receipts, or Cost/Property. This role requires strong knowledge of accounting principles, independent judgment, and the ability to resolve unusual accounting issues while maintaining accuracy and compliance with established policies and procedures.

You will be responsible for…

• Perform complex account maintenance, reconciliation, and balancing activities
• Prepare journal vouchers, worksheets, reports, and supporting documentation
• Research and resolve account discrepancies and unusual accounting issues
• Analyze and classify financial transactions using established guidelines
• Assist with financial statement preparation and reporting requirements
• Initiate invoices and process accounting-related documents
• Support implementation of new software and reporting processes
• Maintain journals, registers, control reports, and sub-ledgers
• Perform inventory activities related to organizational assets
• Provide lead direction, training, and functional supervision to staff as assigned
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures
• Perform related duties as required

What skills & experience you’ll bring to us

• Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field
• Minimum of three (3) years of full-time journey-level clerical accounting experience
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
• Strong understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles, including debit/credit concepts
• Ability to reconcile and balance accounts accurately
• Ability to perform mathematical and financial calculations
• Proficiency with computers, spreadsheets, and standard office equipment
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills
• Ability to work independently and meet deadline
