An exciting opportunity has arisen for Maternity Support Worker (Trainee) to join our Community Midwifery teams across CTM University Health Board.
Training and salaryThe Maternity Support Worker will be required to undertake up to a 24 month training/development programme upon commencement of this role, with an aim to attain a Level 3 Maternity Support Worker (MSW) qualification. Completion of the qualification is a requirement of the contract of employment. During this training period, salary will be paid in accordance with Annex 21 of the Terms and Conditions.
Roleand duties
We are looking for motivated interested people to work collaboratively and in partnership as an integral part of the Midwifery team. The post holder will work under direction of a registered midwife to provide postnatal support to women birthing people and their families within a community setting. The post holder will work under direction of the qualified midwife supporting women birthing people and their families in a Community setting.
Carrying out delegated clinical and therapeutic tasks as part of a multi professional programme of midwifery care, with responsibility for work based administrative duties. The post holder will regularly work without direct supervision for all or most of the shift. Effective communication between the Maternity Support Worker and the Midwife is essential in achieving and maintaining safe care. The midwife retains overall responsibility and accountability for the delegated provision of care for each women and her baby.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn't fluency, just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.

Salary progression and noteThe Maternity Support Worker will be required to undertake up to a 24 month training/development programme upon commencement of this role, with an aim to attain a Level 3 Maternity Support Worker (MSW) qualification. Completion of the qualification is a requirement of the contract of employment. During This Training Period, Salary Will Be Paid In Accordance With Annex 21 Of The Terms And Conditions As Follows:
Months 1-12 of the training period will be paid at 70% of the top of Band 3 pay scale, Months 13-24 of the training period will be paid at 75% of the top of Band 3 pay scale. Upon successful attainment of the qualification, even if sooner than the 24 month allocated timeframe, the post holder will automatically move to the Band 3 bottom pay step, as they will then meet the full KSF outline of this role and be expected to undertake all duties within this Maternity Support Worker Job Description as indicated.
NOTE : There will be some circumstances where current staff apply for these posts, and their new trainee salary will be below that of their current salary. To aid both the recruitment and development of staff it is recommended that staff across NHS Wales should have continuity of pay for the duration of the training to avoid financial detriment.
