Assistant

Land Consultant
  • Undertake land referencing activities, including relevant land registry searches, desktop research, questionnaire analysis and archival investigations to identify legal land interests and rights in land
  • Accurate data entry and secure management of land and land‑owner information and consultation records in databases and GIS
  • Site visits to land‑owners to confirm ownership details and agree access for surveys
  • Support Land team securing and acquiring appropriate land‑rights and negotiating Heads of Terms
  • Support Land team preparation of orders and relevant statutory processes to acquire land
  • Attend and contribute to internal and external project meetings
  • Participate in our CPD‑accredited Land Academy
  • UK and Ireland travel, with the possibility of travel to WSP’s Global Capability Centre in India

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate
  • A degree in Geography, Land/Estate Management or another relevant discipline, which provides an understanding of the complexities of land use and ownership in the UK and/or Ireland
  • Experience of working with databases and managing information with excellent attention to detail
  • Experience of working with mapping and knowledge of GIS
  • Experience of working with land‑owners and members of the public
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with colleagues, land‑owners and clients at all levels
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Some knowledge of urban and rural environments and farming practices would be desirable
  • The ability to travel effectively to various sites and locations is a necessary function of this role

Variety of work

With a broad selection of projects, we don’t pigeonhole you into a particular project or role. The Land Academy enables you to broaden your capability into GIS, Data Management, Valuations, Negotiations, Referencing and Access and Project Management to be a more rounded and valuable consultant. Project experience rotates, on average, around every 18 months. Day‑to‑day activities vary from site activities, land‑owner engagement, access negotiations, client meetings, project management, report writing, data management, digital innovation scoping and map production.
