Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine with Specialty Interest

CTMUHB would like to invite applications for the Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine with specialty interest. The post will combine working in the Emergency Department (ED) at Prince Charles Hospital (PCH) on the senior rota with weekly dedicated teaching sessions. The post will be based in Prince Charles Hospital. We envisage the split for this post at 80% in Emergency Medicine and 20% in your chosen Specialty Interest (Specialty to be confirmed at interview).

This post is fixed term.

Main duties of the job

The post: SCF 80% in Emergency Medicine

The post will offer the candidates opportunities for career development, through Life Support courses, Clinical Audit, Grand Round Presentations, Complaints Management, development and/or updating of Care Pathways, support and mentoring of medical students, bedside ultrasound and a bespoke senior weekly consultant lead teaching programme.

The Post: 20% Specialty Interest

You will be able to choose from a few specialties. These can be discussed and chosen  currently have specialist interest posts in US, ITU, Anaesthetics, Bike Park Wales, (mountain bike park), CHARU (prehospital 999 work), Green Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics and Medical Education.

Job responsibilities

The working pattern of Emergency Medicine

The post is designed for individuals who would like to gain further experience in Emergency Medicine in the UK. The post is for 6 months with possibility of 6 months extension. You will be expected to work a full shift rota including nights and weekends. The responsibilities of the roles include the following:

  • Contribute to the Emergency service at Prince Charles Hospital
  • Participate in the initial assessment, treatment, referral and disposition of patients attending the Emergency Department.
  • Liaise with other members of the clinical team and other specialties
  • Work a shift pattern including nights and weekends.
  • To participate in clinical audit and activities.
  • To attend regular teaching and complete eLearning objectives
Person Specification Education
  • Full registration with the GMC
  • Full registration with 1 of the following: ATLS, ALS, PALS, APLS provider status
Work Experience
  • At least 4 years full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or shall have equivalent experience or competencies. Previous UK middle grade Emergency medicine experience essential. Clinical observer and or clinical attachment is unacceptable.
  • Previous experience in emergency medicine or allied specialties such as critical care, acute medicine and paediatrics
