Senior Pump Development Engineer – Lunar Permanence

About the Role

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. Working to develop reusable, safe, and low‑cost space vehicles and systems, we build sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program, leading the design of a clean‑sheet LH2 and LOX pumps for the Lunar Lander for NASA’s Artemis mission.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design of clean‑sheet LH2 and LOX pumps for the Lunar Lander.
  • Design, manufacture, and test multiple cryogenic pumps.
  • Collaborate directly with external parties including government and commercial entities.
  • Assist in integrating pumps in space vehicle applications.
  • Provide engineering analysis and support for disposition of Non‑Conformance.
Qualifications
  • B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or a related technical subject area.
  • 7+ years of experience in complete cryogenic pump design.
  • Professional experience designing piston rings, check valves, drive linkages, and pump bodies in cryogenic fluids such as LOX, LH2, or LNG.
  • Experience with 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred) and Finite Element Analysis tools (ANSYS preferred).
  • Proficiency in crafting engineering drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Willingness to work on‑site with occasional travel.
Desired
  • M.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or a related technical subject area.
  • Experience in all phases of integrating pumps in space vehicle applications.
  • Experience working with LOX and LH2.
  • Experience in engineering analysis/support for disposition of Non‑Conformance.
