About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Transportation Project Manager to lead the planning, design, coordination, and delivery of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects across Northwest Indiana. This position is ideal for a civil engineering professional with strong hands-on exposure to INDOT-funded projects, the ability to oversee multidisciplinary teams, and confidence managing projects from early concept development through construction support.
The role involves managing project schedules and budgets, supervising design activities, coordinating with public agencies and utilities, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and maintaining clear communication with all project stakeholders throughout the lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee transportation and roadway engineering projects from preliminary planning through final design and construction phase support.
- Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource plans while ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.
- Lead status updates, client meetings, and stakeholder coordination sessions.
- Manage task assignments to engineers, designers, survey teams, and support staff.
- Review and direct engineering design activities including roadway geometry, alignments, profiles, cross-sections, drainage, grading, and traffic control plans.
- Ensure compliance with INDOT standards, manuals, LPA processes, and design protocols.
- Review plan sets, specifications, reports, calculations, cost estimates, and QA/QC documentation.
- Identify risks, technical challenges, and constructibility considerations early in the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate closely with INDOT, city/county public works departments, regional agencies, permitting authorities, and utility providers.
- Support environmental documentation, right-of-way processes, and project development steps required for state and federal funding.
- Coordinate subconsultants and external partners as needed.
- Participate in field reviews, site visits, and progress evaluations during construction.
- Respond to RFIs, change requests, contractor questions, and design adjustments.
- Assist with inspection tasks, punch lists, and project closeout documentation.
- Team & Quality Management
- Mentor junior engineers, roadway designers, and technical staff.
- Ensure project quality control processes are consistently followed.
- Maintain strong internal communication and collaboration across departments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field (PE preferred, but experienced PMs without licensure may be considered).
- Required:
Direct experience delivering INDOT roadway or transportation projects. - 5–10+ years of experience in roadway design, transportation engineering, or civil infrastructure project management.
- Proficiency with Micro Station, Open Roads Designer, or equivalent transportation design software.
- Strong understanding of roadway geometry, grading, utility coordination, stormwater systems, traffic safety, and transportation project development.
- Proven ability to manage schedules, budgets, client relationships, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
