Summary

Responsible for troubleshooting equipment.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Inspect, maintain, repair and install electrical components such as armatures, generators, inverters/converters, motor alternators, regulators, traction motors, switchboards, lighting fixture, magnet coils, jumpers, batteries, printed circuit cards, inside and outside wiring at shops, buildings and yards, and conduct work on any and all rolling stock equipment, support shop equipment or plant equipment.
  • Move cars within Maintenance of Equipment territory. Will be required to learn and troubleshoot defects using the Automatic Train Control System.
  • Maintain HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems, which includes but is not limited to freon handling.
Qualifications
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent (GED or TASC) approved by a State's Department of Education or recognized accredited organization.
  • Must possess a minimum of four years electrical experience. Related electrical trade school accreditation and work experience may comprise the required four years' experience.
  • Must possess the ability to trouble‑shoot equipment.
  • Must possess mechanical ability and ability to use various electrical meters and testing devices.
  • Must possess ability to read wiring schematic diagrams.
  • Must possess knowledge of relay logic.
Wage Progression

Wage Progression for New Employees hired after 9/24/2014:

  • $40.449 – 100% hourly rate of pay.
  • 70% – 1st 240 days of compensated service.
  • 70% – 2nd 240 days of compensated service.
  • 75% – 3rd 240 days of compensated service.
  • 80% – 4th 240 days of compensated service.
  • 90% – 5th 240 days of compensated service.
  • 90% – 6th 240 days of compensated service.
  • 95% – 7th 240 days of compensated service.
  • 100% – After 1,680 days of compensated service.

Current employee wage progression (hired on or before 9/24/2014):

  • $40.449 – 100% hourly rate of pay.
  • 70% – 1st 240 days of compensated service.
  • 75% – 2nd 240 days of compensated service.
  • 80% – 3rd 240 days of compensated service.
  • 90% – 4th 240 days of compensated service.
  • 95% – 5th 240 days of compensated service.
  • 100% – After 1,200 days of compensated service.

Note:

Consistent with Rule 67B of the IBEW Agreement, in the case of a transfer into the craft, employees will be subject to enter the wage progression at the 70% rate.

However, candidates who meet one or more of the criteria listed below will qualify for the expedited wage progression for Journeymen:

  • Four years of full‑time experience as an electrical worker, including the following jobs and titles and industries
  • Electrical, Electronics or Communications Worker in the Armed Forces
  • Electrician, including commercial, residential, and low voltage
  • Utility or Power Plant Electrical Worker
  • Electronics, Communications or Computer Technician/Engineer
  • Electrical Apprentice or Electrical Helper
  • Automotive Electronic Technician, with ASE certification
  • Possess or completion of the following educational degrees, apprenticeships or trade program certifications, with required practical work experience accompanied thereto for a total of four years:
  • A four‑year bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Technology or associated Electrical field from an accredited college or university.
  • A two‑year associate’s degree in electrical engineering, Electrical Technology or associated Electrical field from an accredited college plus two years of full‑time experience performing electrical work.
  • A trade (vocational) school certificate in Electrical Technology or associated electrical field, of which completion requires at least one year of classroom training; plus three years of full‑time experience as an electrical worker.
