Job OverviewSTERLING MEDICAL is seeking a dedicated clinical staff member to provide direct and indirect patient care in an urgent care setting. The role requires collaboration with providers, nurse managers, and co‑workers, and is performed under the supervision of an onsite provider (MD, PA‑C, or NP). The successful candidate will thrive in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment, helping to deliver a concierge‑style experience that brings patients and providers together.
PrimaryDuties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct and indirect patient care in the clinic setting.
- Communicate with providers, nurse managers, and co‑workers regarding changes in patient condition, diagnostic results, and treatment adjustments.
- Respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or treatment response.
- Use training, skills, and knowledge gained through licensure and ongoing education.
- Assist with inventory/ordering and cross‑train in laboratory rapid assays, reception, and radiographic studies.
- Adhere to protocols for head‑to‑toe assessments, pain assessment, and pain management.
- Educate patients and families about pain management and treatment plans.
- Perform point‑of‑care (waived) testing and laboratory quality control; maintain CLIA compliant records.
- Interpret and act on waived test results; conduct procedures such as laceration care, joint injections, I&D, mole removal, phlebotomy, EKGs, spirometry, X‑rays, IV insertion, injections, audiometry, ear irrigation, and drug screening.
- Implement medication administration safely, following the five medication rights and reducing medication error risk.
- Provide assistance to providers during procedures that require manual skills.
- Maintain proficiency in equipment operation and safety.
- Act as a liaison among administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
- Communicate clearly with clinic managers, co‑workers, and physicians; develop positive working relationships across departments.
- Serve as a resource for less experienced staff and assist with their education and training.
- Complete supervisory duties as directed and maintain accurate, timely documentation in the medical record.
- Follow state regulations, including obtaining radiology certification within 90 days of hire and performing occupational medicine tasks as required.
- Manage supplies and maintain organized examination rooms.
- Respond to patient phone calls, ensuring all calls are answered and processed by shift end.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the work area.
- Follow infection control protocols and maintain personal protective equipment as required.
- Be flexible, organized, and able to function under stressful situations.
- Complete annual education requirements and maintain regulatory compliance.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Use the computerized punch‑time system correctly and report to work on time.
- Attend in‑services, annual reviews, and staff meetings as scheduled (minimum 75%).
- Represent the organization positively and professionally.
- Participate actively in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
- Adapt to changing duties and schedules, including weekends and overtime when needed.
- Maintain flexibility in a growing environment and accept new duties as urgent‑care needs evolve.
- Perform any other duties assigned from time to time.
- At least one year of experience in a clinical setting.
- Radiology certification preferred.
- Phlebotomy/IV certification preferred.
- BLS certification required.
- Computer literate.
- Certified Nursing Assistant or higher; licensed professionals (CNA, CMF, EMT, RT, RRT, LPN, RN) may qualify under scope of licensure.
- At least one year in a clinical environment.
- Radiology certification preferred.
- Phlebotomy/IV certification preferred.
- BLS certification required.
- Computer literacy.
- Certified Nursing Assistant or higher; follow training and licensure requirements for specific roles.
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and manual dexterity for tasks such as drawing blood, administering injections, and operating instruments.
- Good vision and hearing for chart reading and communication.
- Ability to maintain endurance during fast‑paced shifts.
- Flexible to adapt to ergonomic demands such as bending and reaching.
- Strong communication skills with patients, families, and co‑workers.
- Problem‑solving and adaptability in high‑pressure scenarios.
- Empathy and compassion for patients experiencing pain or distress.
- Calmness when confronting difficult or traumatic situations.
- Attention to detail to minimize errors.
