Senior Electrical Engineer

WSP is initiating a search for a Senior Electrical Engineer for our Boise, Idaho office. Be involved in projects with our Federal Services Division team and help solve client challenges.
Job Description- Determine well‑defined methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data relating to substation components, procurement and pricing, IFR/IRC detailed design and review processes, and IEEE/NESC Standards/NERC regulations.
- Review and advise on third‑party design documents, procurement lists, and project plans.
- Perform professional and complex electrical engineering work on single‑line, three‑line, wiring diagrams, general arrangement, substation layout, bus arrangement, grounding grid, lightning protection, and more.
- Incorporate future‑ready techniques, concept development, operating strategies, and various design requirements with equipment sizing, cabling, AC/DC panel design, and conduit/trenching design.
- Support senior engineers with research and recommendations of components and field equipment applications.
- Verify site characteristics, providing technical input on engineering, design, testing, maintenance, and construction procedures.
- Develop electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, grounding potentials, short‑circuit study, protective device coordination, one‑line diagrams, relaying, and substation switchyard layouts.
- Develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates; prepare construction safety and phasing plans; update electrical infrastructure layout plans with coordination among owners, disciplines, sub‑consultants, and clients.
- Work individually or as part of a cross‑functional team to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, assisting with installations, cost calculations, and ensuring compliance with specifications, permits, and regulations.
- Prepare data visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations for data interpretation and presentation.
- Maintain a high level of quality and responsiveness to client requirements in alignment with WSP standards.
- Provide guidance and training to entry‑level engineers.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations explaining research, findings, and recommendations to improve design and construction.
- Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of field investigation data, with input on action plans for risk mitigation.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- 5 to 7 years of relevant post‑education experience as an electrical engineer on large capital projects.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Experience with operations and project controls for reporting and proposal development.
- Proficient knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, and design/build processes.
- Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design projects.
- Working knowledge of relevant engineering and electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, and compliance practices.
- Ability to perform technical computations and calculations involving electrical engineering principles, plans, specifications, and regulations.
- Project management experience with small to mid‑level projects, including tracking hours and expenses.
- Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on construction and design aspects of facilities.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
