Para Professionals must meet one of the following qualifications:
Have 2 years of college credits or
Have a college degree or
Pass the Para Pro Praxis Assessment with a score of 457 or higher or the Idaho Paraprofessional Testing Alternative with a score of 75% or higher.
Idaho Paraprofessional Testing Alternative testing dates are offered at the school district throughout the year to West Ada Paraprofessional applicants. The test should be passed within 90 days of hire.

Purpose
Provides disciplinary supervision to secondary school students; performs related work as required.
Performance Responsibilities
The primary function of an employee in this class is to assist teachers and administrators by providing disciplinary supervision and supervising a disciplinary program for designated secondary school students. The position provides tutoring and supplemental instruction for students. The position is differentiated from the Elementary Safe School Assistant position by the maturity in age and size of the subject students and subsequent more serious nature and consequences of aggression and behavior interventions.
The position is supervised by the building Principal or a Vice-Principal. The primary duties of the position are performed in a classroom and detention room environment, including exposure the physical hazards of disruptive and aggressive students.
Essential Duties
- Monitors designated students requiring disciplinary supervision;
- Supervises an in-school disciplinary classroom, study hall, or other designated suspension or detention facility, including coordinating assignments with teachers;
- Assists teachers, administrators, parents, and students in preparing and implementing a disciplinary or behavior modification plan;
- Assists teachers in removing disruptive students from a classroom, cafeteria, school grounds, or other building area, as required;
- Prepares and maintains documents, reports, records, files, and related documentation of student activities, violations, progress, and behaviors;
- Initiates and maintains contact with parents on student activities, incidents, behaviors, and violations and subsequent school actions;
- May assist students with classroom and homework assignments, tutoring, or other supplemental instruction;
- Assists students with behavior modification, conflict management and resolution, making correct choices, recognizing consequences, and other related social skills;
- Assists teachers with reports and documentation;
- Performs school grounds, lunchroom, hallway, parking lot, and other monitoring and safety duties, as assigned;
- Maintains student and District confidentiality;
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures and safety practices.
- May supervise a classroom in the absence of a teacher;
- Performs other related duties as required.
- School and District rules, codes, standards, and expected student behaviors;
- School and District policies on discipline, behavior modification, and punishment, including suspension;
- Disciplinary and behavior modification methods, techniques, and objectives;
- Conflict resolution and mediation techniques, methods, and objectives;
- Basic educational procedures and objectives, including classroom instruction and presentation, preparation of teaching materials and aids, classroom management, testing and grading, tutoring, and student-teacher relations and interactions;
- Operation of classroom instructional equipment;
- Operation of standard office equipment, including a personal computer.
- Follow written and oral instructions and observe District policies and procedures;
- Monitor and handle or remove students presenting disruptive, aggressive, or other disciplinary or safety problems;
- Investigate and resolve student conflicts;
- Prepare, implement, and document behavior modification plans and programs;
- Monitor and supervise students in suspension, detention, study hall, or related separation facilities;
