Hours:
40 hours, Monday–Friday
Shift: 7 am to 7 pm. Possible coverage at a system cancer institute as needed.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our outpatient rehabilitation team, specializing in the evaluation and treatment of patients with head and neck cancer. This role focuses on providing evidence-based care to individuals experiencing speech, voice, and swallowing difficulties due to cancer and its treatments, including surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. The ideal candidate will be passionate about oncology rehabilitation and committed to improving patient outcomes and quality of life.
Responsibilities- Perform comprehensive evaluations of speech, language, voice, cognition, and swallowing function for patients with head and neck cancer in an outpatient setting.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s medical history, cancer treatment stage, and functional goals.
- Provide therapeutic interventions for dysphagia, aphonia, dysarthria, and other communication disorders related to cancer and its treatment.
- Deliver pre-treatment education and counseling for patients undergoing radiation or surgical procedures, including total laryngectomy and tracheostomy.
- Conduct instrumental assessments such as FEES and video fluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS) when appropriate.
- Collaborate with oncologists, otolaryngologists, dietitians, and other rehabilitation professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
- Educate patients and caregivers on safe swallowing techniques, voice restoration options (e.g., electrolarynx, voice prosthesis), and communication strategies.
- Document patient progress, treatment outcomes, and discharge planning in accordance with clinic protocols and regulatory standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education related to oncology rehabilitation.
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
- Current state licensure and ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP).
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience, with at least 1 year in head and neck cancer rehabilitation preferred.
- Experience in outpatient care and familiarity with oncology care pathways.
- Proficiency in conducting and interpreting instrumental swallowing assessments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient-centered approach to care.
- Preferred
Skills:- Experience with tracheostomy and laryngectomy management.
- Knowledge of AAC devices and voice prosthesis options.
- Familiarity with survivorship programs and long-term rehabilitation strategies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
