Camp Support Counselor

Job at Stroum Jewish Community Center of Greater Seattle.

Camp Support Counselors assist with mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health (MESSH) support of J Camp campers, providing direct support under the direction of the Camp Care Coordinator.

• Guide staff in implementing positive behavior management strategies with campers.
• Actively participate in and supervise activities during J Camp, including in the pool and joining groups that need extra support.
• Interact with multiple groups and campers throughout each day.
• Maintain positive, professional interactions with staff and families while redirecting any personal concerns or support needs to the Camp Care Coordinator.
• Alert the Camp Care Coordinator when a situation is outside the Camp Support Counselor’s scope of practice.
• Confidentially document observations of camper behaviors, interactions, and needs, and share them with the Camp Care Coordinator for guidance and support.
• Provide flexible support across multiple camp locations, in person, over the phone, and virtually.
• Immediately inform the Camp Care Coordinator of any concerns that arise with campers, staff, parents/guardians, or community members.
• Communicate regularly with the Camp Director and other members of the Camp Leadership Team; share recommendations with the Camp Director on an ongoing basis.
• Act as a positive ambassador of the SJCC both inside and outside of the community center.
• Follow all emergency procedures at the SJCC.
• Perform work on weekends and evenings as needed to meet applicable deadlines or scheduling needs.
• Other duties as assigned.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

• Education/Experience: Experience and/or training working with children required. Registered Behavior Technician training or other similar behavior training preferred.
• Other Skills: Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification for adults/infants/children, through an approved certifying body. Openness to learning.

• Physical Demands: To perform the job, the employee is frequently required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, climb, balance, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent may be required to carry materials (presentation) weighing up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
• Environmental Conditions: The work is typically performed in a community center environment, both inside and outside, with a moderate to loud noise level in varying weather conditions. Environmental conditions may include slippery surfaces, crowded areas, or working near moving parts (e.g. exercise equipment). Local travel may be required. Entering the SJCC pool may be required.
