A luxurious translation of a road trip pit stop, El Capitan Hotel is a boutique hotel in downtown Merced, California. On the road to Yosemite, the hotel features 114 guest rooms, a historic theater, and four distinct dining experiences, all reflective of the surrounding Central Valley community.

Job Summary

The Director of Sales is responsible for the selling efforts on behalf of the hotel in accordance with the objectives established in the sales and marketing plan. The Director of Sales will ensure sales activities and bookings are focused on yielding maximum revenue per available guest room and any meeting or event space where applicable. The Director of Sales will have direct oversight of sales managers and coordinators.

What you'll do:

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the sales team
  • Develop sales action plans and execute accordingly to achieve established revenue goals
  • Target accounts by mapping specific businesses and their buying tendencies
  • Oversee all sales-related activities including but not limited to, concessions, contract negotiations, rate quoting, deposit schedules, rooming lists, and other documents
  • Participate in monthly forecasts for sales-driven segments and events
  • Maintain an organized departmental plan for correspondence and follow-up
  • Promote local awareness through maintaining relationships with CVB and other industry partners and organizations
  • Conduct site tours to showcase the property and entertain clients as appropriate
  • Host FAM stays with agents selling and booking the market
  • Have a working knowledge of local and regional competition
  • Work closely with the operations team to ensure the timely execution and delivery of resumes and banquet event orders
  • Participate in the hotel’s weekly revenue meeting to review strategy and business needs
  • Participate in weekly leadership meetings
  • Execute New Waterloo-initiated sales and marketing programs
  • Assist with the completion of the hotel’s annual budget
  • Support personnel actions such as hiring and terminating staff, and consulting with HR and management as necessary
  • Ensure staff has a complete understanding of their job requirements and sufficient training before holding them accountable for results
  • Participate in monthly P&L calls
  • Responsible for the development of the S&M Budget, Expenses, and Business plan
  • Participate in weekly leadership meetings
  • Execute New Waterloo-initiated sales and marketing programs
  • Assist with the completion of the hotel’s annual budget
