General description and duties are described below.
Responsibilities- Assess and assist the whole student, including cultural differences and/or disabling conditions
- Communicate effectively
- Provide accurate academic/vocational information
- Implement innovative and flexible counseling methods to increase matriculation rates among non-traditional students
- Function as a student advocate facilitating the resolution of college related problems
- Work independently and in small groups on educational projects
- Required:
Master's degree from an acceptable accredited institution in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or related fields - Required:
Valid, active California license as a Marriage and Family Therapist, Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor - Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture an inclusive learning and work environment
- College level counseling experience
- Experience with programs aiding socio-economically disadvantaged and/or academically underprepared students
- Experience providing psychological services in an educational setting and in crisis intervention
- Knowledge of community health resources and ability to make appropriate referrals
- Ability to consult effectively with faculty and staff on student issues
