General Description
Adjunct Counselor:
Dual Enrollment/CCAP (Multiple Sites). Dual Enrollment allows high school students to earn college credit for college courses completed while still in high school. This is a part-time Counseling position within Dual Enrollment Area under the general direction of the Dean of Student Services and funded with categorical funds based on grant availability. Dual Enrollment Counselors provide academic and vocational counseling;
develop educational plans that may include the use of Dual Enrollment/CCAP courses offered on high school campuses within the service area. The maximum counseling load is 10 units per semester, which may include evening and weekend hours.
- Assess and assist the whole student, including cultural differences and/or disabling conditions
- Communicate effectively
- Provide accurate academic/vocational information
- Implement innovative and flexible counseling methods to increase matriculation rates among non-traditional students
- Function as a student advocate facilitating the resolution of college related problems
- Work independently and in small groups on educational projects
- Master's degree from an acceptable accredited institution in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family and child counseling OR
- Bachelor's degree from an acceptable accredited institution in one of the above listed degrees and a current license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) valid in California OR
- The equivalent
- Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture and create a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment. Staff shall respect and acknowledge the diversity of students and colleagues in performing duties.
- Currently working as a grades 9-12 counselor on a high school campus within the Merced College service area
- Experience with ARIES student information system used at K-12 sites within the Merced College service area
- Understanding of student support programs and services that increase retention, completion, and academic success
- Experience with Student MIS systems and computer-based educational planning software
- Knowledge of current Student Success and Support Program requirements and processes; current technology skills related to counseling; willingness to pursue future technological developments; familiarity with programs aiding socioeconomically disadvantaged and/or academically underprepared students

Sick leave; part-time hourly employees accrue sick leave credit at the rate of one hour for every twenty hours of paid service.
