Ready to join the transformation? Merced College is focused on innovation, student success, and professional growth. This is a part-time instructional assignment within the Social Science Cohort under the general direction of the Dean of Social Science and Fine & Performing Arts, with the potential to teach courses such as Introduction to Sociology. The maximum teaching load is 10 units per semester, which may include evening hours.
Responsibilities- Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations
- Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance policy
- Maintain required student attendance and scholastic records
- Prepare and grade class assignments and examinations
- Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy
- Participate in the development and review of curriculum
- Participate in the development of teaching-learning methods and materials
- Participate in departmental, area and campus professional activities/committees
- Participate in the college's learning outcomes assessment program, including course, program, and institutional assessments
- Submit grades and manage student records as required
Required:
- Master's degree in sociology OR
- Bachelor's degree in sociology AND Master's degree in anthropology, any ethnic studies, social work, or psychology OR
- The equivalency
- Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture an inclusive learning and work environment
Preferred:
- Teaching experience in the field
- Current technology skills related to teaching in the discipline and openness to future technological developments
