Golden Valley Health Centers is seeking an Optometrist to provide high-quality optometric care for in our community in Merced, CA!
The Optometrist provides high-quality, comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages—performing exams, diagnosing vision issues, prescribing treatments, and supporting urgent care needs. As a valued member of our Medical Staff, they also contribute to quality improvement, planning, and community outreach efforts.
Location and Schedule: This position will work at our Merced Senior Health and Wellness (SHAW) Optometry Department.
Flexible Schedule: Flexibility to work five (5) eight (8) hour days, or four (4) ten (10) hour days.
Compensation: $150,000 - $174,000 Guaranteed Annual Salary;

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to pediatric, adolescent and adult patients presenting with vision problems and eye diseases.
- Prescribe, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids
- Detection and non-surgical treatment of eye disease such as glaucoma, cataracts, and Macular Degeneration
- Diabetic Eye Care including retinal screening
- Treatment of acute eye conditions such as infections, and corneal abrasions
- Direct staff and assist in the development of the overall practice
- Demonstrates effective communication and problem-solving skills.
- Compliance with Golden Valley Health Center’ personnel policies, clinical protocols, and Principles of Practice
- Participate in Golden Valley Health Centers’ Quality Assurance and peer review program, including participation on the Staff Performance Audit Committee
- Attend and participate in General Medical Staff meetings and other assigned committee activities
Physical Demands
The employee must occasionally lift up to 40 pounds and/or push up to 100 pounds (on wheels). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to hear staff on the phone and those who are served in-person, and speak clearly in order to communicate information to clients and staff. Must have vision with or without lenses that is adequate to read memos, a computer screen, personnel forms and clinical and administrative documents.
Must have high manual dexterity. Must be able to reach above the shoulder level to work, must be able to bend, squat and sit, stand, stoop, crouching, reaching, kneeling, twisting/turning, fingering and feeling.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually average.
Min. Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE:
Graduation from an accredited optometry program with a Doctor of Optometry (DO) degree, active state optometry license, valid BLS CPR certificated through AHA/ARC
SKILLS:
Ability to speak Spanish highly desirable.
Education/Experience Requirements
- Valid California Medical License
- DEA Certificate
- AHA or ARC Certified BLS CPR
- Board Certification within three (3) years of employment
- Satisfactory completion of an accredited residency-training program with Board eligibility or certification
- Ability to clear Credentialing, Background Check and Drug Test
