General Purpose

The Area Supervisor is a store leadership member responsible for a specific area of the store and for the general operations and supervision when acting as Manager on Duty. Duties include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly shopping environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation and a clean work area, and executing company operational processes.

Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
  • Safety is the number one priority; practice safe behaviors in everything you do.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe shopping environment.
  • Report or correct unsafe conditions or practices immediately.
  • Secure the building, monitor EAS devices, manage cash office security, and oversee armored carrier pick‑ups and register area.
  • Keep exits clear and maintain customer safety procedures.
  • Test fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
  • Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect.
  • Show courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
  • Recognize associates using company recognition programs.
Personal and Store Brand
  • Represent and support the company brand.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the dress code.
  • Ensure all associates adhere to the dress code.
  • Keep the store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
  • Remove daily trash.
General Merchandising
  • Ensure receiving, sizing, markdowns, and other processes meet company standards.
  • Assist with receiving merchandise trucks and non‑merchandise deliveries.
  • Keep stockrooms clean, organized, and proper back‑stock secured.
  • Assist with floor moves, signage, and promotional setups.
Loss Prevention
  • Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program.
  • Maintain a strong floor presence and protect confidential information.
  • Maintain the Public View Monitor system and conduct “Code 50” inspections.
  • Execute company best practices to maximize productivity.
Front End Supervision and Operations
  • Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and front‑end procedures.
  • Manage a smooth cash line, ensuring timely scanning, security tagging, and tickets.
  • Maintain equipment functionality and supplies.
  • Support Pioneer “Scan and Bag” best practice.
  • Ensure product salability and presentation at the front end.
Fitting Rooms
  • Oversee maintenance, cleanliness, and tag auditing of fitting rooms.
  • Ensure all returned merchandise is ticketed, scanned, and tagged.
Administrative Duties (as assigned)
  • Manage cash pulls, bank deposits, and front‑end controls.
  • Oversee payroll administration, scheduling compliance, and reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned by the store manager.
Competencies
  • Manage work processes, business acumen, and prioritization.

  • Communicate effectively and ensure accountability.
Qualifications and Special Skills Required
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment.
  • Basic mathematical skills for retail use.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements / ADA
  • Use store equipment including PDTs, registers, and PC.
  • Stand, walk, and move around the store up to 100% of time.
  • Regularly bend, squat, kneel, climb, and reach.
