Job Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer will work at a technical expertise level involving process development fundamentals that support corrections/improvements/risk management. The engineer will also develop and execute plans to continuously improve and optimize product quality and process yield by evaluating new materials, processes, and equipment.
The ideal candidate would have experience in a Lean Transformation and be proficient in deploying tools such as Value Stream Mapping, Kanban, Single-Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED), Fishbone diagrams, RCA, Control Charts, Gemba Boards, OEE, Gemba walks, 5S, A3 reporting, and other methodologies to mitigate waste TIM WOOD.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Manage implementation of new products and product revisions for assigned projects.
- Responsible for identifying and implementing process-related continuous improvement activities to improve product quality and increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Ensure all process developments and improvements meet the Quality Management System requirements.
- Create working drawings/digital files/CNC programming as necessary.
- Engage with the appropriate personnel to identify and resolve corrective/preventative actions to address quality, technical, and manufacturing issues.
- Project Management – Accurate development, research, planning, timely delivery, and reporting for all project deliverables.
- Keep current on new developments and technologies in assigned disciplines and proactively present new ‘Best Practice’ methodologies, procedures, processes, and equipment to the company.
- Utilize various business software programs to create new and edit existing manufacturing floor work orders; update process standards; and analyze, troubleshoot, and trend historical process equipment and production data.
- Led the Lean Kaizen and Six Sigma teams as necessary to increase production efficiency and reduce cost.
- Work with outside vendors to develop new equipment and implement modifications to existing equipment.
- Work closely with operations (including but not limited to maintenance and supply chain) daily to support the entire production floor through continuous improvements to processes and equipment and clear and concise communication with line leaders and production personnel.
- Lead the implementation of engineering changes at the operations level. Coordinate changeovers for materials and processes. Update PFMEA, QCP, and work instructions to ensure quality.
- Perform root cause analysis for customer complaints and document them in an 8D while implementing corrective actions.
- Responsible for process design for new product introductions. Coordinate team efforts during line trials for experimental formulas and compounds for new products or cost-saving initiatives.
- Optimizes material yields to reduce waste and improve product quality.
- Advocates the need to change materials to R&D to reduce costs from an inefficient process or excessive waste.
- Optimizes a continuous process to reduce labor through lean or updating process technology.
- Process improvements that ensure the workforce remains safe. Perform job hazard analysis and equipment start-ups before handoff to operations.
- Assist with quoting an estimate of jobs for the commercial team.

- Good interpersonal and communication skills with proven leadership abilities.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or other related Engineering field, or comparable background with 4 – 7 years experience in manufacturing settings.
- Experience working in plastics, paper mill, concrete, or food industry would be a plus.
- 2D software proficiency required. 3D software experience is a plus. Preferences: 2D – Auto Cad, 3D – Creo or Solidworks.
- High proficiency in creating advanced spreadsheets, utilizing macros, and developing forms with MS Excel and statistical software (e.g. Minitab, JMP).
- Achievement of Six Sigma/Green Belt/Black Belt accreditation would be a distinct advantage, including but not limited to Lean Manufacturing experience and accreditation.
- Proven project management experience with medium to large-scale/complex projects.
- ERP and similar types of business information systems experience very desirable.
- Relevant experience with statistical process control and capability analysis is required.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, root cause analysis, and risk assessments with strong attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of FMEA and QCP tools.
- Must be flexible and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
