The Spiritual Caregiver is responsible for providing spiritual care to hospice patients and their families.

• Demonstrate understanding of the difference between a clergy role and the role of a Spiritual Caregiver.
• Proficiently provide spiritual care to persons of all races, ages, genders, sexual orientations, social classes, and mental/emotional status.
• Provide spiritual care to individuals whose beliefs differ from those of the Spiritual Caregiver, championing cultural and spiritual humility.
• Facilitate patient‑ and caregiver‑led spiritual conversations, walking alongside them and refraining from imposing personal beliefs unless requested.
• Demonstrate knowledge of a wide range of spiritual resources, provide appropriate resources, and network with community religious leaders to refer patients or caregivers when necessary.

• Preferred: Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education or a Master’s degree in theology, divinity, pastoral care, philosophy, religion, or a related discipline.
• Required: Two units of Clinical Pastoral Education or a Bachelor’s degree in theology, divinity, pastoral care, philosophy, religion, or a related discipline.

• Preferred: Two years of hospice experience.
• Required: A minimum of two years’ experience in a health‑care setting and/or related pastoral experience.

• Provide documentation of current endorsement or acceptable language (licensing, ordination, etc.) in accordance with the applicant's spiritual/faith tradition. Faith groups must be recognized by the Armed Forces Chaplains Board.
• Provide documentation that demonstrates the candidate is in good standing with their spiritual/faith group with no ethical charges current or pending.

• Ability to minister to patients and families in crisis.
• Exceptional verbal communication skills.
• Ability to plan, organize, and exercise independent judgment.
• Demonstrated ability to be open, sensitive, flexible, and ecumenical.
• Current CPR, valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation or public transit access.
