A Brief OverviewThe Senior Director of the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has administrative responsibility for the Stanford Medicine enterprise emergency management program. The Senior Director advances operational resiliency to maintain uninterrupted delivery of safe, high-quality patient care during area‑wide or local emergencies and manages OEM's finances, resources, and operations. This role leads the program's strategic plan and initiatives in alignment with the organization's missions, visions, goals, plans, and policies, and contributes to the emerging discipline of Emergency Management and Disaster Medicine.
The Senior Director reports directly to the Vice President (VP) of Facilities Infrastructure & Safety (FIS), the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Facilities Services, applicable executive leaders and governance bodies. The Senior Director represents Stanford Medicine by actively engaging with emergency management partners at Stanford University; other academic medical centers and health systems; public safety officials; community nonprofit organizations; and city, county, regional, state, and federal governmental agencies.

- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).
- Designs and energizes the long‑term vision and incremental annual goals to progress toward an integrated, Stanford Medicine enterprise‑wide emergency management program delivered as a shared service across hospitals, ambulatory sites, and other care settings.
- Forges relationships with the VP of FIS, the SVP of Facilities Services, clinical and operational leaders, and applicable leaders and governance bodies to cultivate interdisciplinary collaboration, influence prioritization, and secure resources for program directives.
- Leads enterprise readiness, response, and recovery for planned and unplanned incidents by facilitating development and execution of Incident Response Guides, establishing and supporting Hospital Command Center(s) and enterprise command/coordination structures, and composing and training leaders who serve on the Hospital Incident Management Team(s).
- Manages the Facilities Services on‑call program, which addresses off‑hour escalations, facilitates communication related to these issues, and evaluates the necessity for on‑site leadership presence as needed.
- Evaluates and improves program performance in alignment with evolving organizational needs to ensure the program supports its constituents and maintains compliance with regulatory standards across all covered sites.
- Explores, evaluates, and applies the latest technology, research, and regulations to maintain the program's advancement as an industry leader.
- Develops and implements guiding plans and program policies/procedures in support of emergency management/disaster preparedness, ensuring compatibility with operations and goals, as well as applicable regulatory requirements.
