Overview

We are seeking a talented developer advocate to lead the way in fostering greater adoption and usage of the Celer Data’s open source Star Rocks project. Celer Data’s Developer Advocate will serve as one of the most recognizable faces of the project, acting as the main liaison between Star Rocks engineers, the community, and its partners while also providing technical educational content to users, and positioning themselves as the chief evangelist for Star Rocks.

Key Responsibilities

As Celer Data’s Developer Advocate, you’ll work closely with our engineers, marketing team, open source community, and partners to secure to grow awareness and adoption of the Star Rocks project and help set the roadmap for the project to ensure Star Rocks continues to address the ever-changing needs of data-driven enterprises. Your responsibilities include:

  • Educating Through Content - You’ll apply your technical knowledge and communication skills to craft content for the Star Rocks community to help users get started, solve problems, and find new ways to use Star Rocks. From in-person workshops to blog posts, you’ll share your knowledge through a variety of mediums to ensure every member of the community has access to your insights.
  • Taking the Star Rocks Story on the Road - Wherever there’s an audience that can benefit from Star Rocks, you’ll be there to tell our story. You’ll travel to industry events, meetups, participate in webinars, and serve as Star Rocks’ chief evangelist all over the world.
  • Build Bridges to Other Projects - You’ll help expand the Star Rocks solution ecosystem by working with other projects and businesses to enhance the usefulness of Star Rocks through integrations and feature development. You’ll operate as the driving force within the company, working with our engineering talent to communicate the improvements, features, integrations, and roadmap changes that will enable Star Rocks to partner closely with the popular projects and tools that community wants to use.
Qualifications
  • A Technical Mindset: Direct experience in our space is a bonus, but the ability to quickly grasp highly-technical concepts and the ability to impart those concepts to others is a must. You’ll regularly be speaking with engineering experts who’ll look to you for accurate information and bleeding‑edge insights.
  • Exceptional Verbal and Written Communication Skills : A great deal of your work will be in fostering partnerships and creating educational content. You should enjoy the process of content creation and have an appreciation for working hard to understand your audience so you can craft resources and presentations they’ll love.
  • Ready to Travel :
    From local events to international summits, we’ll be looking for you to represent Star Rocks (and Celer Data) at a variety of events on a regular basis.
  • Strategic Relationship Builder - Not only are you comfortable working with external partners and fostering relationships, you have the strategic vision to identify ideal partners to support Star Rocks’ roadmap and the evolving needs of the analytics industry, as well as the ability to put together and execute a comprehensive plan for growing Star Rocks adoption through technical partnerships.
  • An Experienced Advocate - You’ll serve as the loudest voice of our open source community, answering questions and working directly with our partners and contributors to ensure Star Rocks is the best it can be.
  • Experience: 3+ years in a developer advocate and/or technical marketing role, ideally within the data analytics, database, or cloud infrastructure space.
  • Technical Expertise:
  • SQL Expertise:
    Proficiency in writing and optimizing complex SQL queries
  • Lakehouse Architecture Knowledge
  • Big Data Ecosystem:
    Familiarity with tools like Apache Spark, Trino, or Presto.
  • Programming

    Skills:

    Proficiency in at least one language like Python or Java for scripting, automation, and building demos.
  • Developer Tools:
    Git, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Bonus Points:
  • Hands‑on experience with systems like Star Rocks, Click House, Snowflake, or similar.
  • Performance Optimization in analytical databases.
  • Open‑Source Contributions:
    Prior involvement in open‑source communities
  • Data Visualization:
    Experience with BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker)

📍 This position is hybrid in Menlo Park, CA.
