Overview of PositionThe Associate Teacher Program at Phillips Brooks School (PBS) inspires people to be a part of the education community by deepening their experience as educators. We invite individuals who are excited to explore their future in the teaching profession to join our program.
This is a flexible program. Associate teachers will have the opportunity to work with a supportive faculty to create their own hopes and aspirations for their future career path and identity as an educator. In addition to teaching in their own classroom, associate teachers go on to varied careers and pursuits. PBS wants to inspire 21st‑century educators to bring their best selves to the classroom and beyond.
PBS encourages associate teachers to think of this as a 2‑year program to make the most of the experience. PBS will be committed to preparing people for their futures as educators through placement in graduate school, a lead teaching position, or many other pathways. The Associate Teacher position is an exempt, full‑time, 10‑month in‑person position reporting to the Associate Head of School for Academics. The start date is August 5, 2026.
Associate Teacher Primary Responsibilities- Actively participate in ongoing professional learning as a member of the Associate Teacher Program
- Convey your enthusiasm for intellectual inquiry. With our lead teachers, design instruction that fosters critical thinking and problem solving.
- Create hands‑on, project‑based learning experiences
- Work with master teachers to create resources and establish milestones for student growth
- Support the well‑being of every student
- Enjoy connecting with children and families
- Expand your toolbox of innovative teaching techniques through generous professional development
- Actively help develop our programs and contribute to the community beyond the classroom
- Lead by the example of your commitment to PBS’s mission and core values
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience working with young students preferred (e.g., summer camps, tutoring, teaching experience)
- Flexibility and creativity in working in a dynamic environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Commitment to a strengths‑based approach in working with children
- A growth mindset with an openness to feedback and continuous improvement
- Model lifelong learning of practice as well as subject area
The full‑time salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000. The starting salary depends on factors that include background, years of experience, education level, and skill level.
