Job SummaryThe Educational Liaison serves as a primary educational resource for patients. This role collaborates with patients enrolled in schools to ensure the implementation and adherence to established educational materials and, when applicable, follows Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to help students achieve their full learning potential.

- Assess each student’s unique learning styles and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
- Create relevant curricula for patients not currently enrolled in an educational program, ensuring they meet academic goals.
- Design and execute creative teaching and learning activities, providing necessary teaching materials and supplies.
- Administer and interpret diagnostic, educational, and cognitive aptitude tests, if applicable.
- Evaluate and summarize the outcomes of school‑based teaching methods.
- Assess the educational progress of each student to ensure they reach their academic goals.
- Work closely with hospital staff, LPCH Hospital School Teachers, parents, and school professionals to plan educational services provided to students post‑discharge.
- Attend rounds to collaborate with the team.
- Consult with teachers and administrators on academic needs and transitions, participating in planning and development of recommended accommodations.
- Maintain knowledge of current educational materials and trends; complete annual continuing education necessary for obtained certification(s).
- Establish a friendly, encouraging, and welcoming environment for students.
- Promote high standards for academic success and behavior, continually encouraging students to meet them.
- Review classroom or curriculum topics and assignments for each student and prepare a plan to assist the student in learning those topics.
- Work with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom.
- Provide students, parents, and teachers with positive, constructive feedback, where appropriate.
- Encourage academic and personal growth, showing respect and appreciation for students’ uniqueness and cultural differences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field. - Experience:
One (1) year of classroom teaching experience or hospital school teaching. - License/Certification: CA Teaching Credential by State of California Commission on Teaching Credentialing.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of K‑12 subjects.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Flexibility and patience to handle diverse situations.
- Ability to work independently while managing several projects.
- Advanced interpersonal skills required to interact with patients and families, recognizing the unique cognitive, social, and emotional needs of medically fragile children and their impact on school success.
- Knowledge and application of social‑emotional learning to recognize and foster the whole child’s development.
- Experience in developing personalized learning goals and activities aligned to instructional goals to engage students in high‑level cognitive activities.
- Motivation techniques and effective goal‑setting strategies to encourage student improvement in academic performance.

Pay Range- Minimum to Midpoint Range (Hourly): $33.79 to $44.83
