Job Summary:
This is an Operations position responsible for assisting in overseeing the safe operation, daily monitoring, and maintenance of large scale industrial computer-based ammonia systems and office HVAC systems. Provide assistance to Refrigeration Tech II & III and Facility Manager to ensure assets (Refrigeration/HVAC/Electrical systems) are managed in accordance with IIAR, ASHRAE, ASME, EPA, OSHA and applicable State and Local Codes. The ideal candidate will have HVAC/R schooling, RETA Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) certification, universal EPA, and at least four years of experience with service/maintenance of HVAC/R.
- Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance of refrigeration storage equipment ranging from 50 HP to 3,000 HP
- Use working knowledge of screw and reciprocal compressors, electrical troubleshooting of ammonia central systems, and control/alarm systems to perform inspections and preventative maintenance
- Knowledge of controls and electric (high and low voltage)
- Knowledge of PC and PLC based master refrigeration control systems
- Maintain the freezer and cooler ammonia system through scheduled preventative maintenance activities
- Check, drain, and fill oil levels as needed
- Oil analysis
- Filter changes
- Check, adjust, or replace belts as needed
- Check for ammonia leaks on the roof and around units
- Check compressors and cycle operation of each unit
- Check condensers and cycle operations of each unit
- Log time and materials into the CMMS daily (work orders, PMs, etc.)
- Check, change or fill water treatment chemical levels
- Oversee and manage Refrigeration, Electrical, and HVAC systems including monitoring, troubleshooting, and repairs; energy management strategies
- Ensure product integrity through temperature monitoring & control
- Evaluate and report equipment condition
- Complete small electrical repairs and welding projects as needed
- Daily communication of system operation and maintenance to departmental management and maintenance teams
- Housekeeping and cleanup of refrigeration machine rooms and maintenance areas
- Interpret plans, specifications, schematics, and manuals for systems overseen
- Conduct audits ensuring required inspections and documentation are completed accurately
- Interact with safety documentation and compliance requirements
- Respond to emergencies to ensure safety
- On-call participation as designated
- Utilize CMMS daily to order parts and complete work orders
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe, working order
- Maintain inventory of related parts
- Maintain technical skills and required certifications
- Adhere to safety requirements and wear PPE
- Comply with OSHA and other regulations
- Collaborate with leadership to meet organizational goals
- Adhere to organizational policies and dress/attendance standards
- Education:
High School diploma or GED; HVAC/R tech school preferred - Experience:
Four years of industrial HVAC/R experience; or equivalent combination of education and related experience - Certifications/Licenses:
Valid state Driver's License;
Sysco defensive driving program;
Powered Industrial Equipment Certification within 3 months; HAZWOPER 24 hrs;
Respirator Fit Test/Physical;
Universal EPA certification; RETA CIRO certification within 6 months; RETA CARO certification - Preferred: RETA CIRO certification and experience with anhydrous ammonia (R717)

- Proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing software; ability to learn Sysco software

- Occasionally able to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Occasionally lift up to 100 pounds
- Vision requirements and respirator fitness test requirements
- Exposure to extreme cold, heat, wet or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; confined spaces
- Non-traditional hours including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and on-call
- Possible travel to other locations or corporate office as needed
- Exposure to fumes or airborne particles; noise levels are usually moderate
