Role DescriptionThe Water/Sewer Construction General Maintenance position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various types of construction equipment in the construction and maintenance of the water system. This is an entry level position and any employee hired for this position must obtain the qualifications and skills outlined below within the specified time stated. An employee unable to obtain the necessary qualifications within the specified times may be ineligible for continued employment with the City of West Memphis.
Required Qualifications- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
- Must have or obtain within 6 months a valid Arkansas Class B Commercial Driver's License.
- Must have an Arkansas Distribution I license.
- Must obtain a Distribution II license within eighteen (18) months.
- Actively seeking out opportunities to learn how to operate the department's heavy equipment such as backhoes, track hoes, dozers, etc.
- Ability to attend an off-site heavy equipment training school.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
- Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - hard hat, safety glasses, etc.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to use hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools, and controls.
- Ability to reach outwards with hands and arms.
- Ability to walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds, to team lift over fifty (50) pounds and push/pull up to one hundred (100) pounds.
- Specific vision requirements that are required include, close vision and distance vision.
