Job Summary

Shambaugh & Son L.P., a wholly‑owned indirect subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc., is a customer‑driven, single‑source, self‑performing construction/engineering firm. We specialize in the Design‑Build method of construction resulting in fast‑track delivery of project improvements. We are one of the largest specialty contractors in the U.S. with all eight M.E.P. (Mechanical, Electrical, Process, Automation, Refrigeration, HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection) design and installation capabilities in‑house.

We perform over $1 billion of construction projects per year with more than 4,000 employees across 50 states from our Fort Wayne, Indiana office.

We are looking for a Fire Alarm Service and Inspection Technician who will service and inspect fire alarm systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform on‑site inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of fire alarm, suppression, and releasing systems and associated devices in accordance with industry standards.
  • Read and understand assigned project documentation and work orders, determining if additional information is required.
  • Manage daily call activity and program system products, including networking and programming.
  • Report to assignment with required testing tools including a suitable multimeter, hand tools, printer, etc.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, software/systems programs, schematics, and operation/product manuals consistent with training.
  • Prepare associated paperwork and forms for customer service activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of High School Diploma or GED; 2‑4 year degree in a technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in the installation of low voltage systems, fire/life safety systems, access control systems, nurse call systems, paging systems, school clock systems, HVAC controls, elevator controllers, and telephone systems.
  • Fundamental knowledge of test equipment including multimeters, digital analyzers, frequency meters, decibel meters, and communicating devices.
  • Knowledge of hazards associated with inadvertent system discharge for inspection, testing, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Ohm's law, resistance, and AC/DC circuits.
  • Programming experience is a plus.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of personal computers, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, iOS, and related database software.
  • Must be able to lift/move equipment and tools weighing up to 50 lb and work in various positions such as climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high‑lift equipment up to 40 ft, as well as in ducts, crawl spaces, and above ceilings.
  • Regular and reliable attendance, including the ability to work extended hours and weekends as required.
