Electrical Maintenance Technician

Location:

Memphis, TN 38107.

Summary

The purpose of this role is to install, repair, and maintain electrical systems, apparatus, and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment. The technician will use man‑lifts, forklifts, hoists, and all required electrical testing equipment while following documented safety policies and common‑sense procedures. This professional must analyze breakdown causes, implement corrective measures, and work safely and responsibly.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Notify supervisor immediately of any accident, near miss, or on‑job injury regardless of severity.
  • Take personal ownership of daily safety and hold other team members to high standards.
  • Apply basic industrial electrical code (local compliance).
  • Read schematics and P&.
  • Perform fusing, thermal overload protection, wire sizing, and motor theory tasks.
  • Work with AC, DC, and servo drive systems.
  • Conduct motor control and power circuit troubleshooting; understand fuse sizing, motor amp readings, and basic DC motor control.
  • Troubleshoot DC and AC variable frequency drives and communicate with outside technical support; tune control loops (IM/APC systems, weight control equipment); competent in electrical noise avoidance, grounding, and shielding.
  • Understand, troubleshoot, and tune burner systems.
  • Apply basic skills in pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical gear.
  • Maintain all plant electrical and electronic systems.
  • Develop and conduct preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance programs for motors and panels.
  • Complete and maintain plant records and reports.
  • Serve as gatekeeper for all electrical drawings and updates.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date programs for PLCs, Panel View, and drives.
  • Maintain line motor data spreadsheet with current motor information.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, lighting fixtures, and replace damaged components.
  • Lead electrical root‑cause analyses when appropriate or as directed.
  • Establish a program to monitor all critical motors in the plant.
  • Test malfunctioning machinery and discuss results with maintenance workers.
  • Lead the electrical downtime and troubleshooting activities.
  • Replace faulty electrical components—including relays, switches, motors, and position‑sensing devices.
  • Adhere to good housekeeping practices and keep work areas clean after each job.
  • Assist with electrical training of other maintenance personnel.
  • Lead and coordinate electrical training programs and efforts for the plant.
  • Comply with safety requirements and notify management of exceptions.
  • Follow all environmental compliance policies and programs.
  • Work as instructed with outside contractors.
  • Lead all electrical projects and installations that fall under maintenance responsibility.
  • Act as the maintenance contact person on automation projects.
  • Attend annual training for new or improved electrical & PLC systems.
  • Comply with all plant rules and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or needed.
  • Maintain regular attendance on site and ability to rotate to varying shifts.

Computer and Software Competencies

Operating a computer or other keyboard instrument is required.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • PLC training.
