The Armed Officer will be part of a highly trained security team that supports critical facilities and public venues. The role includes training in firearms and safe weapons handling, as well as a broader range of specialized security services.
Responsibilities- Maintain a high level of visibility at all times as a deterrent.
- Interact with all clients and visitors in a respectful, courteous, and dignified manner.
- Greet the public, answer simple or basic questions, and notify departments of visitors.
- Have visitors sign in and out on the daily Visitors Log, and issue visitor badges.
- Greet and question unescorted visitors who may be in unauthorized areas.
- Make rounds on each floor and stairwell hourly; perform a sweep of each floor, stairwell, and public restrooms at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Secure all doors and access points around the perimeter at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Report any elevator malfunctions or fire panel alarms to building facility manager(s).
- Observe and enforce the City's "No Smoking" rule.
- Inform relief armed security guards of any special situations or instructions before vacating post.
- Refrain from using personal cell phones or other devices to take photos or recordings while on duty or at City property.
- Limit telephone calls to business or personal emergencies.
- Prevent journalists from proceeding into unauthorized areas and comply with media protocols.
- Assist City employees with defusing arguments or disturbances with the public inside or outside the City office.
- Denote compliance or non‑compliance based on local authority guidance when access is denied.
- Enforce the rule forbidding weapons and/or contraband from being brought into City buildings.
- Confiscate contraband or weapons discovered during a search, contact the Officer of the Day or first available supervisor, and notify the peace officer when turned over.
- High school diploma or equivalent (college degree highly desirable).
- Speak, read, and write English.
- High integrity, exemplary security skills and judgment.
- Above average computer skills.
- Must hold all necessary licenses, permits and certifications required by the States and/or Countries of assignment.
