Overview
McGehee Clinic for Animals, part of the Suveto network of hospitals, is looking for an experienced full-time Veterinary Technician to join our Team. Located in Memphis, TN, McGehee Clinic for Animals is an AHAA accredited practice. We are a five-doctor practice, one of whom is a member of the ABVP. We are a family-oriented clinic and have many employees that have worked here over 10 years.
We have been voted Best Veterinary Clinic in Memphis over seven times in recent years. Our areas of interest include internal medicine; diagnostic imaging including digital x-ray, ultrasounds and echo cardiograms; orthopedic surgery; laser therapy; dentistry and dental x-ray.

Responsibilities- Prepare exam rooms and assist in appointments with doctors.
- Take history from client, perform physical assessments, and record observations legibly in the medical record.
- Educate clients on preventative healthcare recommendations and provide follow-up.
- Communicate patient or client concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Perform venipuncture to collect blood samples, run in-house laboratory tests, prepare forms for outside labs, and call owners with results as requested by the veterinarian.
- Provide and monitor nursing care for hospitalized patients, including medications (all routes) and monitoring.
- Admit and discharge patients following all protocols; educate clients on admit/discharge procedures.
- Clean and restock exam rooms, treatment areas, hospital wards, and other areas as requested.
- Demonstrate proficient knowledge of practice software for dispensing medications, patient food, printing treatment sheets, discharge instructions, labels, and recording communications with clients and doctors.
- Maintain clear understanding and enforcement of OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards.
- Perform diagnostic imaging as requested by the veterinarian.
- Conduct tech appointments (pedicures, ear cleaning, anal gland expression, routine lab work, subcutaneous fluids, etc.) as deemed appropriate by the practice.
- Assist doctors in medical and diagnostic procedures.
- Place IV catheters and begin fluid therapy when requested by the veterinarian.
- Assist in induction and maintenance of general anesthesia with the doctor present.
- Assist in the operating room, recovery, and post-op nursing care as requested by the veterinarian.
- Perform client callbacks and updates as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Recent LVT graduates are encouraged to apply
- At least 3 years of clinical veterinary hospital experience required.
- Excellent listening and communication skills.
- Must have a strong work ethic, be self-motivated, and have a positive attitude.
- Must be flexible and able to adapt to new situations.
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to act as a team player.
- Basic veterinary medical terminology required.
