Job Summary

The Director of Admissions performs managerial functions for ER, Inpatient, Outpatient, and PBX departments. The role involves effective management of human and financial resources to achieve quality outcomes, maintaining continuity of around‑the‑clock registration and operations in conjunction with hospital objectives, policies, and procedures. The Director works varied hours and may be on call as required by the hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Assessment – Assesses competency of staff members, identifies areas of improvement, assists in educational opportunities development; inspects the division to ensure safety; assesses needs for supplies and orders appropriately; assesses registration activities for indicators of continuous quality improvement.
  • Planning – Plans and prepares schedules for staff to complete tasks timely; plans for effective use of available staff; develops and coordinates orientation plans for staff within units; assists in orientation of new personnel.
  • Implementation – Facilitates positive relationships among staff and other departments; supervises daily work performance; completes employee evaluations objectively and timely; provides counseling or in‑service to ensure corrective actions; instructs staff on policies and procedures; conducts monthly unit meetings using performance improvement monitors and report cards; collaborates with CFO and Human Resources on hiring, transfers, or discharge decisions; reviews financial/registration reports to identify problems requiring intervention;

    admits patients and covers shifts as necessary; performs other duties assigned by CFO.
  • Evaluation – Supervises and evaluates work performance, adherence to hospital policies, and staff development; counsels personnel regarding personal and professional issues impacting operations; reviews and evaluates department policies and procedures, initiating revisions as needed.
  • Self Development – Participates in activities that assist hospital and departmental improvement; assumes responsibility for personal growth and management skill development; has knowledge of computer failure and emergency plans.
Specifications
  • Experience – Job‑specific experience, including supervisory experience; minimum 3 years of admissions/supervisory experience.
  • Education – Minimum required:
    High School Diploma;
    Preferred/Desired: BS Degree.
  • Licensure – Must obtain NAHCS Certification within 15 months of hire date.
