SUMMARY

Supervises and directs all activities and employees in Inventory Control.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruitment and Retention:
    Recruit and interview Inventory Control staff. Communicate criteria to recruiters for Inventory Control position candidates. Coach Inventory Control staff in the interviewing/hiring process. Monitor team member turnover; identify key factors that can be improved; make improvements.
  • Employee and Team Development:
    Identify individual and team strengths and development needs on an ongoing basis. Create and/or validate training curriculum in area of responsibility. Coach and mentor Inventory Control staff to deliver excellence to every internal and external customer. Create and manage succession plans for Inventory Control function.
  • Performance Management:
    Establish clear measurable goals and objectives by which to determine individual and team results (i.e., operational metrics, results against project timelines, training documentation, attendance records, knowledge of operational roles and responsibilities, personal development goals). Solicit ongoing feedback from Workcell Manager (WCM), Business Unit Manager (BUM), peers and team members on contribution; provide ongoing coaching and counseling. Recognize staff achievements; perform evaluations professionally and on time.

    Drive continuous improvement in key operational metrics and organizational goals. Coordinate activities of large teams and maintain focus during crises. Ensure fair and consistent recognition and rewards in area of responsibility.
  • Communication:
    Provide weekly communication forum for the department; organize verbal and written ideas clearly in a professional style; solicit input from staff; adapt communication style to individuals as needed.

FUNCTIONAL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Strategy and Direction

  • Know and understand campus strategic directions. Define, develop and implement an Inventory Control strategy aligned with campus goals. Understand Workcell business strategy as it pertains to Inventory Control. Provide regular updates to BUM, WCM, and Operations Manager on strategy execution.

Cost Management

  • Identify creative ways to reduce cost by streamlining processes and systems (e.g., realignment of responsibilities, consolidation of tasks, elimination of non-value-added processes, or process re-engineering). Use tools to monitor departmental cost and cost trends; provide feedback to peers on cost trends.

TECHNICAL MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor department performance and ensure optimum operations; develop or revise procedures as needed. Drive for improved dock-to-stock material and shortest processing times; recommend overtime or recovery methods as necessary. Maintain operational supplies and equipment. Ensure tools and equipment are in proper working order and up to date. Provide timely feedback to Inventory Control and Quality departments; assist with scheduling, documentation, and personnel issues.

    Interface with all relevant functions within plant operations. Supervise and coordinate activities related to verifying and keeping records of outgoing shipments and stock accuracy. Ensure correct parts reach the production line and that material is stocked promptly and accurately. Eliminate errors impacting budget and department efficiency. Recommend capital equipment and staffing changes where appropriate. Adhere to safety, health, and security procedures.

    May perform other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret and communicate regarding common scientific and/or technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members.
  • Ability to present information to top management. Advanced PC skills, including knowledge of Jabil’s software packages. Ability to calculate figures and apply basic algebra and geometry. Strong knowledge of global and regional logistics operations and industry. Proficiency in determining logistics requirements to support company goals with ability to devise strategy to achieve targets. Strong financial and analytical abilities; experience in business analytics to determine optimum company footprint.

    Knowledge of international direct and indirect taxes and global customs regimes.
  • Proven track record of change management and productivity/cost-reduction initiatives. Strong communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word,…
