Environmental Maintenance Manager

Salary Range: $82,385.94 - $

Works under the direction of the Administrator of Wastewater Collection. Directs and coordinates, through subordinate supervisory personnel, activities of workers engaged in repair and maintenance of the City's sanitary sewer system. Reviews and analyzes reports and records and confers with supervisory personnel to obtain data required for planning department activities and to address future needs. Gives work direction, resolves problems such as disgruntled property owners, and sets deadlines necessary to meet work objectives;

evaluates current procedures and practices and develops and implements alternate methods to improve operations; researches and evaluates new developments in material, tools, and equipment to recommend or deny purchase; reviews new land development projects to evaluate additions and modifications to sewer system; coordinates department activities with inter-related activities of other City departments and representatives of utilities to insure optimum efficiency;

prepares various reports for management, state and EPA; prepares and monitors budget; prepares bid specifications and contracts necessary to requisition tools, equipment, and supplies; inspects work sites to evaluate work requirements; and directs clerical personnel in typing reports and record keeping activities. Establishes goals/objectives of the Environmental Maintenance department and staff. Hires and interviews all applicants of the department. Schedules and prioritizes all sewer work and projects.

Evaluates environmental impacts, property loss and risk for prioritization. Prepares reports, develop metrics, reviews budget, makes equipment recommendations and approvals for purchase. Maintains safety and compliance protocols to remain OSHA compliant. Oversees excavation and maintains most current and best practices and technologies in sewer excavation and rehabilitation.

Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.

Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with staff, management, general public and regulatory agencies on both technical and non-technical matters. Requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle and to visually inspect work areas including traversing throughout various property grounds bending and reaching. Requires the ability to operate general office equipment, such as a computer, copier, and telephone.

Majority of work is performed in an office environment. May be exposed to noise and all types of weather conditions while inspecting or visiting worksites and/or facility locations.

Bachelor's Degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering, or a closely related engineering degree and eight (8) years' experience in maintenance and repair of sanitary sewer lines or wastewater treatment processes with six (6) of the eight (8) years in a supervisory capacity; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Engineering-In Training (EIT) certificate or one (1) year of engineering related experience required.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as a condition of continued employment. License (PE) to practice engineering in the State of Tennessee preferred. Must possess or obtain class 2 Wastewater Collection License within 24 months of employment and valid for contingency of employment.
