SummaryThis position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval — award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
QualificationsApplicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements- United States Citizenship:
Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy - English Language Proficiency Requirement — per VA Handbook 5005 — no person will be appointed to serve in a direct patient‑care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English
- Education Requirement: (1) Doctoral degree in psychology from an APA‑accredited program, or (2) Doctoral degree in any area of psychology with a completed re‑specialization program in an APA‑accredited program, or (3) Doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally‑accredited institution with a primarily psychological dissertation
- Internship Requirement:
Completion of an APA or CPA accredited internship program consistent with the assignment, or alternate acceptable programs as outlined in the original description - Licensure:
Full, current, and unrestricted state license to practice psychology at the doctoral level - Board Certification:
For those hired with unaccredited internships, board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a relevant specialty, with mandatory maintenance of certification - Special
Experience:
At least two additional years of experience at GS‑12 level or higher as a professional psychologist, including full licensure and professional practice - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Proficiency in applying professional psychological treatments to diverse patient populations; ability to provide professional advice and consultation; knowledge of clinical research literature
- Provide a full range of psychological assessment services and diagnoses mental disorders, especially for complex patients
- Provide education to patients, family members, and significant others
- Deliver evidence‑based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy
- Consult with professional staff within the VA Medical Center and community providers regarding assessment findings and treatment plans
- Develop, implement, and document psychotherapeutic treatment plans for an assigned caseload
- Operate independently as a member of the VA Medical Center staff with full clinical privileges
- Assume complete professional responsibility for clinical assessment, patient care decisions, and documentation
- Assist the Mental Health Clinic supervisor or coordinator in designing, developing, and implementing clinical programs and quality improvement projects
- Facilitate inter‑program liaisons to coordinate services, comply with performance measures, and meet documentation standards
- Attend administrative meetings, staff meetings, and peer review procedures
- Other duties as assigned
- Work schedule:
Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑4:30 pm - Recruitment Incentive (sign‑on bonus) and relocation assistance may be available to highly qualified applicants
