We are currently seeking candidates to fill important roles. At this time we are taking applications for the position of Paramedic. The Paramedic will provide Advanced pre‑hospital emergency medical care, stabilization, and transport for critically ill and injured patients, in response to 911 calls within the hospital's dedicated service area and/or campus. This is the highest level of pre‑hospital clinical licensure utilized on the 911 service.
When not engaged in emergency response, the Paramedic functions as an integral member of the hospital’s clinical team, providing in‑patient support, and assisting with procedures under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or physician, with guidance from Medical Direction via standing orders or protocols. The Paramedic operates under the comprehensive scope of practice defined by the Tennessee EMS Division and St.
Jude Medical Director’s protocols. In addition the candidate should have the willingness to participate in training, conduct training, and involvement in community relations on site.
- Clinical Leadership:
Act as the lead medical authority on the ambulance unit, responsible for all patient care decisions and scene management in the pre‑hospital environment until patient transfer is complete. - Advanced Patient Care:
Perform comprehensive patient assessment, formulate a field impression, and provide definitive Advanced Life Support (ALS) care and interventions, including, but not limited to:- Advanced Airway Management:
Endotracheal intubation, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), and mechanical ventilation management (if credentialed). - Pharmacological Interventions:
Administer a wide array of medications via various routes (IV, IO, IM, etc.) per protocol or Medical Control orders. - Cardiac Management:
Perform and interpret 12‑lead Electrocardiograms (EKG/ECGs), synchronized cardioversion, defibrillation, and transcutaneous pacing. - Invasive Procedures:
Establish Intravenous (IV) and Intraosseous (IO) access.

- Scene Management:
Ensure scene safety, triage patients in mass casualty incidents (MCI), and coordinate with internal and external agencies (Police, Fire). - Communication:
Provide concise, comprehensive, and accurate patient reports to Medical Control/Receiving Facility personnel. - Documentation:
Complete timely and detailed electronic Patient Care Reports (PCRs) documenting all assessment findings, treatments, patient condition changes, and transfer of care. - Any other responsibilities deemed necessary by Life Care or St.Jude.
In periods of low pre‑hospital call volume, and as directed by hospital need, the Paramedic will utilize their clinical skills to support patient care under standing orders or protocols to be determined, but may include:
- Direct Patient Care Support:
Assist nurses and other clinical staff with patient care activities in designated units that commensurate with AEMT training. - Clinical
Skills:
Perform procedures within the AEMT scope of practice and hospital policy to include:- Obtaining and monitoring vital signs and patient data collection.
- Assisting with patient mobilization, ambulation, and transport within the hospital.
- Maintaining peripheral IV lines and monitoring IV fluid administration.
- Assisting during Code situations (e.g., chest compressions, bag‑valve‑mask ventilations) and rapid response events.
