Position Summary
Conducts moderately difficult property surveys, inspections, and investigations for the Shelby County Land Bank.
Salary Pay Grade:41H
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
- Two (2) years of work-related experience directly related to surveying and investigation of property, or a closely related field; AND
- High school diploma or possess a GED; OR
- PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
- Performs field inspections according to inspection procedures and codes.
- Oversees contractor work process, acceptability of work product, and billing/ payment procedures.
- Reviews, documents, and issues violation of ordinance notices.
- Makes routine inspection of properties and investigates complaints regarding code violations of grass, weeds, debris, and/or public sidewalk violators.
- Researches property ownership to identify, notifies, and prosecutes code violators.
- Coordinates with outside contractors for the cutting and cleaning of properties.
- Creates, maintains, and interprets such records and/or files as may be required in connection with the assigned duties.
- Performs other related duties as required or directed.
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of applicable related codes and ordinances.
- Ability to supervise and conduct difficult environmental surveys, inspections and investigations.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications to prepare documents and send emails; ability to navigate the internet to retrieve information from various websites.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers and the public.
- Ability to compile, maintains, and interprets survey, inspections, and investigation records.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating and making decisions.
- Ability to make decisions and tactfully interact with disgruntled customers.
- Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license or secure one by date of employment.

Shelby County Resident Disclaimer
All employees hired after September 1, 1986, must be residents of Shelby County and shall continue to reside in the County as a condition of their employment. The residency requirement shall not apply to certain public safety/civil service employees. This means exemption from this policy is in effect for the following departments and positions: (1) Sheriff Deputy Patrol Officers, Deputy Jailers and Dispatchers, employed by the Sheriff Department, (2) Correction Officers employed by the Division of Corrections, (3) Firefighters, Paramedics and Dispatchers employed by the Shelby County Fire Department.
The residency exemption for public safety/civil service employees does not include Appointed positions with Sheriff’s Office, Division of Corrections or the Fire Department.
