EY is seeking a State Income Tax Manager to apply their knowledge to a wide range of tax areas and processes, devising strategic outcomes to complex issues.
Handling tax in a large, sophisticated organization takes more than just a technical understanding of current tax practices. As a State Income Tax Manager, you will provide tax consulting, planning, and compliance services to a diverse range of clients operating in various sectors.
The opportunity
The State Income Tax Manager will oversee state-level tax projects, including compliance and related research. You will also be responsible for leading and directing a team in managing state tax compliance and advisory services for clients.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Oversee state-level tax projects, including compliance and related research.
- Lead and direct a team in managing state tax compliance and advisory services for clients.
- Manage and execute state income tax compliance responsibilities.
- Monitor and analyze changes in state income tax laws and regulations and determine impact to the client.
- Provide complex tax review, research, planning, and consulting services to diverse clients, including federal and state tax regulations.
- Prepare and review quarterly and annual state income tax provisions.
- Model various state income tax benefits and consequences using Microsoft Excel, Power
BI, or Alteryx. - Write tax technical memos to succinctly articulate issues, conclusions, and the analysis with respect to various state tax issues.
- Develop and work with staff and seniors to create a team environment.
Skills And Attributes For Success
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline and approximately six years of related work experience.
- High level of proficiency in state income tax code, regulations, and procedures.
- A proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization.
- Technical writing and research experience in a tax context.
- The ability to analyze client data, technical guidance, and make recommendations to engagement teams.
- The ability to prioritize when working on multiple complex projects.
- Strong influencing skills, and the confidence to question existing processes.
- Willingness to travel as needed and working in a balanced hybrid environment.
Ideally, you'll also have
- An achieved or partially achieved CPA qualification, certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, or possess the ability to sit for or be a member of a state bar.
