Critical Facilities (Data Center) Technician – Job Description
Our client is seeking Critical Facilities Operations Technicians to join their team on a full‑time, permanent basis in the Memphis Metropolitan Area.
Relocation assistance is available.
In this hands‑on role, you will operate, maintain, and repair facility systems supporting large‑scale supercomputing datacenter environments. The position focuses on the performance and reliability of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems critical to datacenter operations.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain full compliance with site safety standards and applicable local/regional environmental and health regulations.
- Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot MEP systems, including:
- Pumps
- Piping
- Chillers
- Cooling towers
- CRAH units
- Motors
- Generators
- UPS systems
- Switchgear
- Lighting
- HVAC equipment
- Water supply systems
- Conduct regular facility inspections to validate performance targets and proactively report issues.
- Develop, write, and execute MOPs (Method of Procedures), SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and EOPs (Emergency Operating Procedures).
- Participate in an on‑call rotation for occasional nighttime or weekend emergency response.
- Perform daily walk‑throughs and inspections of all critical infrastructure.
- Manage and maintain spare parts inventory to reduce system downtime.
- Coordinate, support, and supervise planned maintenance shutdowns.
- Implement energy monitoring and efficiency metrics.
- Assist with commissioning activities, including equipment startup, functional testing, and reviewing construction progress.
- Uphold safety practices across all MEP infrastructure operations.
- Must be able to work a fixed rotating schedule (12‑hour shifts, including nights).
- 3+ years of hands‑on experience in facility, mechanical, electrical, or related technical environments.
- Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Experience working with PLCs or Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Prior experience in critical environments such as data centers, hospitals, airports, or similar facilities.
- Hands‑on experience operating MEP systems (chillers, pumps, generators, UPS, switch gear, HVAC, cooling towers, etc.).
- Ability to maintain compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to support commissioning activities.
- Nuclear Navy background is a plus.
- Experience with York YMC chillers.
- Strong mechanical background paired with electrical expertise.
- Familiarity with mechanical or electrical engineering systems and principles.
- Experience in critical infrastructure operations.
- NETA certification or experience with electrical testing.
- Prior military experience (Army, Navy, Nuclear Navy, FOB/Forward Operating Base).
- Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (relevant military or professional experience accepted in lieu of degree).
- Experience working with high‑voltage systems.
- Knowledge of or experience executing MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs.
