Overview

The O&M Stationary Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the O&M building site by investigating and resolving complex problems related to cooling, heating, and pressure flow.

What You Will Do
  • Analyze results from testing and treatment of all mechanical and generating equipment.
  • Repair, adjust, calibrate electrical and electronic control systems, electrical power distribution equipment, computer systems, pneumatic, hydraulic, refrigeration and steam systems.
  • Diagnose trouble calls and determine appropriate actions.
  • Update procedures to reflect changes in codes and regulations.
Education & Formal Training Requirement
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Work Experience Requirements
  • 5-7 years operational/maintenance experience in a high-pressure steam plant environment.
Licenses & Certifications Required
  • EPA Universal Certification (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency)
  • First Class Proficiency Contractor's license, Shelby County
  • First-Class Refrigeration Engineer, Shelby County
  • First-Class Steam Operating Engineer, Shelby County
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Pass a DOT background check.
  • High degree of skill and proficiency in general physical plant engineering operations.
  • Knowledge of system operations, including emergency procedures.
  • Knowledge of electrical, electronics, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, computerized monitoring and control systems.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise judgment.
  • Ability to organize and maintain control of work‑flow.
Supervision Provided by This Position
  • No supervisory or lead responsibilities, though the incumbent may occasionally assign duties or demonstrate responsibilities to other associates.
Physical Demands
  • Exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • React quickly to emergency situations.
  • Occasional travel outside hospital.
  • Work occurs in noisy environments requiring shouting to be heard.
  • Exposure to high heat, chemicals, moving mechanical parts, and high places.
  • Climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • Medium work exerting up to 50 lbs force occasionally and/or 25 lbs force frequently.
  • Close visual acuity for detailed work.
