Position Summary
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Memphis invites applications for a Tenure‑Track Assistant Professor position in Applied Mathematics, beginning in Fall 2025. The appointment is contingent upon university funding.
The successful candidate will have expertise in Actuarial Science, conduct a research program in Applied Mathematics, teach a diverse range of courses, and participate in service activities for the department. The typical teaching load is two courses per semester. Candidates must possess a PhD in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics and demonstrate a proven record of collaborative and independent research, supported by quality publications.
They should have evidence of passing professionally recognized actuarial exams, exhibit strong communication skills, and actively seek external funding.
The Department has a strong PhD program in Applied Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Graph Theory/Combinatorics, and Analysis, and features active research collaborations within the University and with external partners. Applicants are encouraged to include a statement in their cover letter detailing how their research aligns with the department’s research areas or connects disciplines represented in the department. The successful candidate will be expected to enhance our Actuarial Science program.
Qualifications- PhD in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics.
- Expertise in Actuarial Science, evidenced by passing professionally recognized actuarial exams.
- Demonstrated record of collaborative and independent research with quality publications.
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage students.
- Ability to actively seek external funding.
