IOTA Community Schools is a network of four public charter schools in Memphis, Tennessee. We operate both "fresh start" schools and "zoned-enrollment" turnaround schools. From 6th through 12th grades, our schools serve predominantly minority and low-income populations likely to be first-generation college attendees.
Job DescriptionThe Instructional Aide:
High Impact Tutor is a part-time (10‑20 hours/week), temporary (ending May 2026) role designed to serve students in grades 6‑11 by providing customized instruction based on specific math or English gaps or the prerequisite skills they need to practice. The incumbent will work with small groups of students during the school day for High Impact Tutoring, build relationships, diagnose, monitor, and drive accelerated learning of math concepts.
Tutoring takes place between 8a‑3p.
- Under immediate supervision, follow the lead of the teacher in providing small‑group instruction in math or English content.
- Discuss classroom learning activities with the teacher to coordinate instructional efforts and implement instructional programs.
- Tutor students in small groups of reinforce learning concepts.
- Set math and/or ELA goals with students, track progress, and encourage improvement.
- Attend regular High Impact Tutor training with the IOTA math and ELA team to develop instructional skills.
- Communicate with families to keep them aware of students’ progress.
- Perform classroom‑associated clerical work: typing, filing, record keeping, attendance, and financial duties as needed.
- Prepare teaching aids and materials, such as charts, graphs, and manipulatives, using appropriate techniques.
- Assist in classroom organization: displaying materials, arranging furniture, and maintaining a clean environment.
- Participate in parent conferences and appointments as directed.
- Support students with mild to moderate learning and/or physical disabilities, adapting materials and fostering positive learning patterns.
- Maintain accurate records and demonstrate confidence, tact, and sound judgment.
- Work collaboratively as an educational team member and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Valid teaching license in the state of Tennessee.
- Dependable, with a sense of humor and a strong commitment to IOTA’s mission.
- Pass a TB test and background check at time of offer.
- Preferred: demonstrated ability in math or English; at least six months of experience with adolescents/children in a structured environment; experience with specialized learning environments; volunteer experience may substitute on an equal basis.
$35/hr.
