Our School: Libertas is a public charter school serving the Frayser neighborhood in Memphis. Our mission is to be a school for human flourishing: cultivating minds, hands, and hearts for lives of wonder, work, and love. We offer a rich, rigorous, and personalized education through the method of Dr. Maria Montessori and the classical liberal arts. Tennessee has twice named Libertas a Reward School - a top 15% school. We currently serve infant and toddler, early childhood and elementary at our founding location and a middle school on a second nearby campus. Over the next 1-2 years we will open a high school that uniquely imparts literary and cultural tradition while also fostering student enterprise and work of the hand - together preparing students for college, career, and citizenship.

Role Summary
- Provide instructional coaching and classroom leadership support to Elementary classrooms in implementing a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum based in Montessori pedagogy, classic literature, and the work of the hand.
- Full-time role. School day is 7:30 am-3:30 pm (until 4:30 on Wednesdays for professional development; other after-school meetings until 4:30 are common). Most lead teachers and coaches spend approximately 4-6 hours per week outside of the regular school day for planning, collaboration, and preparation. Two additional weeks of work and training in the summer for closeout and planning.
- Measures of success for the position include: satisfaction among stakeholders (including staff and families); observed growth and development of supported staff; staff retention; student progress through curriculum and growth on school metrics (e.g. gradebook, NWEA MAP, TNReady, etc.); accurate and timely tracking of and responding to teacher and student data; satisfactory performance evaluations

Key Responsibilities
- Coach and support teachers to ensure effective planning and implementation of a Montessori- and state standards-aligned roadmap of curriculum and assessment in Elementary (grades 1 through
5) classroom environments. Coach and support teachers to lead a strong classroom culture. - Monitor, communicate, and make decisions based on student and teacher data (lesson plan quality, timeliness, assessment results, grades, etc.)
- Conduct weekly or bi-weekly observations and debrief sessions with each classroom. Identify and prioritize areas of need/opportunity. Support staff members in professional growth
- Plan and implement quality Professional Development
- Review and provide feedback on weekly lesson plans. Support and/or co-plan when needed.
- Serve as model teacher, co-teacher, or teacher when needed
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Traits
- Substantial (multi-year) effective teaching experience in Montessori environment and/or urban schools in high-need communities.
- Proven experience in coaching, leading, and training adults.
- Interest in and commitment to Montessori pedagogy, liberal arts, and humane education. Candidates without a Montessori background must be interested in and willing to participate in Montessori training provided by Libertas’ local training partner, Arete Memphis Public Montessori Residency.
- Willing to serve all students, regardless of background or needs, in an inclusive and supportive setting.
- Knowledge of curriculum content and students’ developmental needs.
- Skills in instructional practices and classroom management for student achievement.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
