LS Teacher

Description

St. Mary's Episcopal School is currently seeking a full-time Lower School teacher to start in August 2026. This culturally competent teacher will work within a nurturing and collaborative Lower School team, planning and implementing curriculum while supporting the daily lives of our Lower School students. The Lower School teacher reports to the Head of Lower School.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Teaching early literacy and math skills at the elementary level
• Teaching lower school-aged students for a minimum of five years
• Integrating technology and providing differentiated learning experiences
• Creating a nurturing environment that supports student learning and wellness
• Partnering with our students and parents as they experience lower school life
• Being an integral part of the broader life of the school
• Developing and practicing cultural competence in their relationships with school personnel, students, and families

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree (required) or Masters degree (preferred) in Education or related field
• Demonstrated teaching skills and experience, preferably at the lower school level
• Must be committed to the principles of the Episcopal Identity of the school while serving in a diverse community
• Outstanding organizational and communication skills
• Excellent judgment, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Should be enthusiastic about girls' education, creative, motivated, collaborative, and able to work with multiple constituencies

Physical Demands:

While performing the above duties, you will be expected to:

• Easily sit, stand, turn, bend, reach, walk, talk, and hear at a student's level
• Stand, walk, climb up and down stairs
• Traverse school facilities and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency
• Spend time on the floor and move from sitting on the floor to standing without assistance
• Interact with faculty, staff, parents, and others in person and on the telephone
• Work in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
• Work at a desk and computer
• Lift up to 50 pounds
