The Granville T. Woods Academy of Innovation located in Memphis, Tennessee, and serve students grades kindergarten through 8th who are eligible to attend schools in the Shelby County Schools district. GTW’s academic focus will be on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (“STEM”) that will be delivered through a fully integrated Project Based Learning (“PBL”) environment. Students will be engaged and learn through hands‑on, interdisciplinary projects that address real‑world problems and challenges, transforming students from passive receivers of information into enthusiastic learners, thinkers and problem‑solvers who assume greater responsibility for their learning.

Emphasis will be on the principle that all students will graduate as collaborative, informed, resourceful and reflective individuals who are high school ready, college‑bound, career‑prepared, and community‑minded.

Job Description

Granville T. Woods Academy of Innovation Charter School teachers design weekly lesson plans, develop standards‑based assessments, analyze assessment data, and create intervention plans to meet our 21st Century Learners’ needs. In addition, GTW teachers integrate technology effectively in the classrooms, and implement project‑based learning.

  • Creating lesson plans
  • Teaching 21st Century Learners a common core based curriculum
  • Integrating technology into lessons and plans
  • Motivating scholars towards achievement
  • Meeting with parents regarding performance and conduct
  • Developing 21st Century Learner improvement plans
  • Working with special educators in a co‑teaching model for students with IEP plans
  • Work planning with school and community teams
  • Attending required professional development training
  • Create and review student assessments
Qualifications
  • Hold a current TN teaching license in appropriate subject area or the ability to secure a TN teaching license.
  • Have bacherlor’s degree or higher.
  • Has a proven track record of academic success as evident in TVAAS, state assessments, and value ad data.
  • Hold the belief that all students can learn at high academic levels.
  • Uses digital content, technology integration, and project‑based learning in a highly efficient manner.
  • Secured undergraduate and/or graduate majors aligned to subject area certification.
  • Have the ability to work in an extended day environment.
  • Has the ability to teach in an inclusion environment with a co‑teacher.
  • Working knowledge of or ability to learn the Windows platform preferred.
  • Offers proven track record in the implementation of blended learning.
  • Good communication and written English skills required.
  • A team player with strong inter-personal skills.
