Performs specialized work by assisting special education teachers in instructing and supervising the activities of students with disabilities to provide a well‑organized, smoothly functioning classroom environment. The position is responsible for assisting assigned teachers in preparing instructional materials, preparing classrooms for activities, supervising and assisting children in the classroom and in other areas of the school, reinforcing classroom lessons, and providing other assistance as requested.

Incumbents may also be responsible for providing assistance to special‑needs students or coordinating special projects and programs as assigned. The position works under direct supervision according to set procedures.

• Assist special education teachers in instruction and supervision of students with disabilities.
• Prepare instructional materials and classroom activities.
• Supervise and assist children in classroom and other school areas.
• Reinforce classroom lessons.
• Provide additional assistance as requested, including support for special‑needs students or coordination of special projects and programs.

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree, or at least 48 semester hours of college coursework.
• Preferably a passing score on the Para Pro Assessment Test and one year of experience working with children in an educational setting.
• Must possess or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
• Degree equivalency:
  Bachelor’s Degree (4 years plus required experience);
  Master’s Degree (6 years plus required experience).
