Position: Nephrology Physician Opportunity

The Memphis VA Medical Center has an opening for a Nephrologist that offers a dual academic appointment with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). The position reports directly to the Chief of Specialty Medicine and works as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team that collaborates with other members of the team to provide care to veterans.

The Medical Center consists of one main campus and ten community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs). Its a 1a-complexity tertiary care VA healthcare system located in one of the fastest-growing Veteran population regions in the United States. The facility provides comprehensive care to over 47,000 veterans in a 52-county area of Western Tennessee, Northern Mississippi, and Northeast Arkansas. It includes 236 inpatient beds with a 26-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit.

It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provide consultation on various forms of nephrology disease states, both for diagnosis and treatment in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Nephrology clinical practice, supervising, and teaching Nephrology fellows, residents, and medical students.
  • Share attending call responsibilities with other Nephrologist in covering some nights, weekends, and holiday calls as needed.
  • Lead, manage, and round with teams of fellows, residents, medical students, and pharmacists while on inpatient service or in a clinical setting.
  • Clinical assessment and evaluation - inpatient and outpatient.
  • Ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic studies.
  • Ordering consultation and referrals - inpatient and outpatient.
  • Health promotion and disease prevention for patients, family members, and staff education and counseling.

Requirements:
  • BE/EC in Nephrology
  • Eligible for a Faculty Appointment at UTHSC
  • Full and unrestricted license from ANY state
  • US Citizenship
  • Be proficient in the written and spoken use of the English language
